I hesitated for a few months buying this book on kindle. I was not excited about the price for a kindle book being that high. It also didn't have a ton of reviews to push me over the edge or make it a quick decision.So, it stayed on my wish list for months. I finally decided to buy it though and take the chance. I figured if I learned a bit about the different regions, learned a recipe or two, then it'd be worth it. Sometimes just one great recipe from a book makes it worth the price.I am so glad I bought the book!I read it in two days and enjoyed every word, story, and her writing style. I love the way the book is presented by regions with experiences, recommendations, and recipes.What I didn't expect but made me such a lover of the book were the histories and differences between certain foods from Italy - I had always known there was important information I should know regarding balsamic, olive oil, and parmigiano reggiano, but I never knew what it was. Elizabeth succinctly teaches and shares these important details! Now I'm on the hunt for these items. The proper ones!Also, I never knew the pertinent distinctions between the kinds of pasta - industrialized vs fresh vs artisan dried. So glad I know now, and I can't wait to try her recommendations.Moreover, even though I'm intrigued with Rome, I didn't for a minute think I'd buy her book on Rome because I didn't expect it'd be as useful to me as Eating My Way Through Italy. Though I imagine spending time in Rome on various visits in the future, I just didn't think I'd need a whole book on it. I have changed my mind! I loved her book and writing so much that her book on Rome was purchased immediately when I finished this one. I can't wait to curl up on the chair and read it. Heck, I'll probably even buy her latest book on the Italian table.I highly recommend this book if you want to learn a few things about foods from Italy, explore some recipes, and be inspired for travels in Italy. She has an app too that I downloaded. I'm eager to use that too while in Italy.
Elizabeth Minchilli is an American married to an Italian, living in Italy. I first came across her when I loaded her iPhone app for "Rome". With that app, I started eating so much better on my trips to Rome. Got me away from the touristic places to the eateries where the real Romans eat; a culinary delight!This book covers eating all over Italy. If you travel, like we do, you'll look for some of these places. And if you don't, and in this non-traveling Pandemic crisis we suffer through who does, reading this is like a travel documentary. It takes you through the tremendous diversity of Italy, it's splendors and of course it's superb food.Elizabeth is a real treasure for those of us who adore Italy!!
